Kochia
Common: Kochia (also Mexican fireweed, burning bush, summer cypress)
Scientific: Kochia scoparia
Crops Affected: Corn, cotton, soybeans, tobacco.
Identification: An
annual, 1 to 6 feet tall with numerous branches. This plant has narrow
alternating leaves and margins that are fringed with hairs. The
seedlings are small grey to green rosettes with hairy leaves.
Geographical Distribution: Found
throughout North America. This is an early germinating drought tolerant
vigorous summer annual. It is found in cultivated fields, gardens,
roadsides, ditchtanks and waste areas.
