Lambsquarters

Common: Lambsquarters (also known as Green Pigweed and White Goosefoot)

Scientific: Chenopodium album

Affected Crops: Corn, cotton, rice, soybeans, sugarbeets, tobacco.

Identification: Seedling leaves have a distinctive, frosty/silvery coating with a purple sheen on the underside. Leaves are alternate, broad and rounded at the base tapering to the end, with coarsely toothed margins. Small, inconspicuous flowers are crowded in the axils at the tips of the branches. Stems are erect, allowing the plant to stand 1-6 feet tall.

Geographical Distribution: Present throughout the United States. Common in cultivated fields, gardens, and waste areas.
