Affected Crops: Corn, cotton, soybeans, vegetable crops.
Identification: Thrives
in cultivated soils but is also found in gardens fence raws and waste
areas. The seeds retain their visibility in the soil for more than 50
years making eradiction difficult.
Special identifying features are 1 rounded and 1 heart shape
cotyledon as a seedling covered with hairs. The stems are erect,
branched and 2 to 7 feet tall. The leaves are alternate with densely
hairy, velvety surfaces.
Geographical Distribution: Widely distributed throughout the Central United States, but found only sparingly in Western United States.
