Using the right equipment and choosing products
with appropriate packaging helps you apply pesticides with the least
risk to yourself and the environment.
Special U-Turn® containers offer easy handling, reduce exposure risks, and are compatible with:
- Standard herbicide-type sprayer equipment.
- Closed-system injection pump sprayer units as a banded ground application.
- Broadcast spray by ground or air.
Quick Tip
When using any application equipment, install
an activated carbon or charcoal filter in the sprayer cab. Be sure to
buy a filter with paper on each side to reduce the amount of carbon
dust in the cab. Filters run about $100, so see your equipment dealer.
How does U-Turn reduce risks?
- The industry accepted coupler allows the product to be directly transferred from the container without pouring.
- Refillable, returnable containers come in 15- and 90-gallon sizes -- to closely fit your acreage requirements.
- Returnable packaging means no triple rinsing or disposal. There's also less packaging waste.
- Unused product is returned to FMC for credit.
- Since excess product is returned, you don't have to store chemicals until next year.
Closed Systems.
Closed-system application provides
improved safety. There are several direct injection systems designed
for this purpose. These minimize potential exposure and eliminate
leftover tank mixtures, because the chemical and water are kept in
separate tanks.
Quick Tip
Keep an extra set of nozzles handy so you don't
have to clean clogged nozzles in the field. Use proper PPE when
replacing nozzles, and use a clean water source to rinse them.
Standard Sprayers.
We realize that not all applicators
have closed systems on hand. However, standard herbicide sprayers
fitted with direct transfer systems are an acceptable alternative. They
also work well with Furadan 4F and the U-Turn system.
These sprayers transfer the chemical into the mix tank. Exposure
risks are minimized by dry-break coupling with the T-valve. And because
you won't need to pour liquids, you need not worry about splashing
chemicals. Using a closed connector to connect the transfer pump to the
U-Turn container improves the chemical transfer and further reduces
risk.
